Options that make a difference!

When choosing a compactor it is best to have an understanding of the business that the unit will be used in. By understanding the business, the different types of waste, and the frequency of the waste disposal, we can better design a system that will continue to provide years of trouble free performance. For instance, some organizations generate waste that has high moisture content. In many cases, we can provide a system that will help dewater, or de-liquefy the waste and thus reduce the weight in a container and subsequently reduce the cost of disposal. On this page we will discuss some of the options available for compactors.

The Wet-Pac Option

This option combines several items together to provide for better containment of liquids and can be added to most SP Industries Compactors. Ideal for applications that have 5% to 20% of liquid in the waste including apartments, convention halls, concessions waste, food prep waste, wet industrial waste, and any commercial application that has liquids that leak from their current waste handling equipment. First, we raise the compactor 4” or more inches to provide a larger sump in the container. We add baffle plates to the compactor, slope the floor to the container, and add a Pinning/Boost Override System. We match the opening of the container to the compactor, provide a neoprene full door seal, adjustable door hinges, pinning holes and cable, and tapper the container for easy unloading.

Decks

SP Industries offers three basic deck options for most compactors in varying sizes to meet your specific needs. Our Drive on Deck is rated for 10,000 pounds and is ideal for when you want to load your compactor with a fork truck or other industrial machinery. Our 5,000 pound deck is great for applications that use hand operated machinery (Walking Pallet Jacks) to transport waste to the compactor and when the compactor has a dumper resting on the deck. The 750 pound Walk-on Deck is used for applications where a person will be loading the waste into the hopper from a rolling cart or other manual loading methods. All decks can be made to fit your application and size requirements. OSHA safety regulations will require handle rails and toe rails on most of these applications and we can provide these items as well.

Hoppers, Doghouses, and Chutes

Get the most out of your system with a hopper that meets your needs. Our custom designs for hoppers allow many options from ground loading to dock loading and meet or exceed all OSHA safety standards. Choosing the right loading method can save you money by eliminating unwanted usage, pilfering, rodent infestation, odor problems and more. Doghouses enclose your system and can be locked to prevent unwanted usage while keeping out rain and snow that add unnecessary weight to your waste loads. Chutes attached to your building can be loaded from inside, eliminating trips outside that leave your facility unprotected or waste energy by allowing heating or cooling to escape.

Auto Start Systems

Auto Start Systems are available on most models and allow the system to start when enough waste is loaded into the chamber. This is best used in applications where minimal waste is thrown away at a time and several articles of waste are needed to fill the chamber. The advantages to this system are that you only operate the machine when truly needed. This saves electricity and wear and tear on the machine while improving the life of your equipment.

Access Panels

Often times in installations your compactor is placed in a position where access to the rear of the machine is limited. This poses a problem for service people who may have to work on the machine at a future date. Without proper access, service people would need to move the machine to access the internal parts and perform routine maintenance to get the maximum life from your machine. To protect from this, SP Industries offer additional service panels that can be located on the sides of our machines. These optional panels can save you thousands of dollars in service fees in the future.

Gauges and Warning Lights/Alarms

SP Industries offers a variety of gauges, warning lights and alarms to tell you everything you need to know about how your system is functioning and what may be a hazard or potential problem. Options include advanced full load indicator, machine about to start warnings, system jam warning, service needed warnings, and many other possibilities. These systems can be custom designed for your specific application and can even tie into existing equipment to shut down feed lines or other equipment that would cause a back-up. Often, these systems are devised as a safety precaution to notify workers of a potential danger.

Power Unit Covers and Shields

Multiple options are available for protecting your power unit from the outside elements. These covers or shields allow air to get in and help to keep out snow, water, and dirt so that your power unit functions properly for years to come. SP Industries can even help you create a cover unit that will provide containment for leaking fluid for those situations where you have to be sure that no fluids enter the ground or work areas.

Compaction Container Covers

Once the container is removed from the compactor, you have an opening where your waste can escape while being transported to the landfill. Often, your hauling companies will tarp this opening to keep you waste in place. SP can provide many options for covering this opening including permanent tarps mounted to the container. Pinning tunnels on the compactor and pinning cables on the container are an option for those loads that have more spring to them and are difficult to tarp. Another option would be a swing door that could come from the side or above the opening. Doors can have complete seals for those wet loads or can be a simple latching system that will secure the load for transport. What ever your need, SP Industries has the answer.

Bar Grate Systems

These systems help you handle difficult waste products and are often used in our Precrusher models. Bar Grates keep the product off the floor so that thin items do not have the opportunity to slip under the ram or get jammed in the machine. Often used with metals, wood, and other heavy duty products, bar grating also protects the machine from “drops” of heavy product into the chamber. Frequently these “drops” will dent the floor and cause gaps to develop and material to slip under the ram during operation. The bar grate systems protect the floor and keep your machine running in the toughest operating applications.

Liquid Collection Systems

SP Industries offers several methods for liquid collection for both self-contained and stationary compaction units. Our ability to customize equipment allows us to raise packing openings to accommodate more liquids in the container. We can also slope the compactor to either collect or run off liquids. Special drains and holes can be installed to drain fluids and collection pans installed to protect against spills.
SP Industries offers more options than any other compactor company and we do it because we believe that a system that performs beyond your expectations is a standard machine. To learn more about options, equipment, and solutions for your waste and recycling handling, call us at 800-592-5959.
